THE ROTARY YOUTH CENTER AT MORRISON

Portland, OR

The Rotary Youth Center at Morrison is a multipurpose gym and gathering space designed for Morrison Family Services at their Sandy Boulevard location. The new facility supports treatment, training, physical education, recreation, and group meetings for teens and adults participating in Morrison Family Services’ many community support programs.

The updated grounds include an entry plaza, a large rear gathering patio, terraced gardens, a playing field, and a picnic area.  A series of exercise pathways and stairs connect the spaces with a variety of seating opportunities for informal counseling and relaxation.  Native, drought-tolerant, and habitat-friendly plantings are featured throughout.

Stormwater is managed in a variety of ways, including a green roof, a cistern to collect roof runoff for irrigation, and a series of rain gardens.

The design team is led by EMA Architects. All members of the design team are volunteering their services on a partly pro bono basis to support Morrison Family Services’ dedication to the community.

* An update in 24/25 was completed to dedicate the space as a Healing Garden in the name of long time program director, Drew Henrie-McWilliams, upon his retirement.

Completed: 2020 (update completed 2025)
